This policy covers wickedstrange.com. It describes what information reaches us, what reaches our service providers, and what you can do about it.

What we collect directly

Nothing, unless you give it to us. This site has no user accounts, no login, and no database of readers. You can read every page without submitting anything.

If you subscribe to our email list, we collect the email address you enter and pass it to our email service provider so we can send you the newsletter. We use it for that and nothing else, we don’t sell or rent it, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. If you email us directly, we keep that correspondence so we can reply.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and how they arrived. It sets cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, referring site, and device and browser type. We use this in aggregate; we are not trying to identify you and have no way to.

You can opt out across all sites using Google’s browser add-on.

Advertising

Some pages carry display advertising served by a third-party advertising network. Ad networks and their partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve advertising based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ad Settings, or opt out of participating vendors at aboutads.info.

Where required by law, a consent management tool will ask your permission before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change that choice at any time.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links are affiliate links. When you follow one, the merchant may set a cookie recording that you arrived from this site so any resulting booking is credited to us. We receive commission reports, not your personal details — we can see that a booking happened, not who made it. See our affiliate disclosure.

Hosting and logs

The site is hosted on DigitalOcean App Platform and served through a content delivery network. Like effectively all web hosting, these providers process server logs — including IP addresses — for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to certain processing. For most readers we hold nothing at all; if you are on the email list, we hold your email address. Ask and we will tell you exactly what we have, or delete it.

California residents: we do not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood. Advertising cookies set by third parties may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; the opt-out links above apply.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page.
