Haunted Houses in Rhode Island 2026: One Is Bookable, Two Are Question Marks

Rhode Island is the smallest state in the country and it has the shortest haunted-attraction list to match — five venues, and the two we added in early August split the story cleanly. The Haunted Labyrinth said farewell after 39 years; Haunted Gallows in Harrisville says it opens in September, with tickets already selling.

One of the three now has a full season on sale. The other two have problems more interesting than "hasn't announced yet."

The state of play

Fortress of Nightmares, Newport — no dates on sale

Staged inside the tunnels and casemates of Fort Adams, which is the best venue any haunt in New England has to work with. Granite, darkness, and a genuine nineteenth-century fortress; nobody has to build a set.

Its ticketing page currently reads: "No upcoming date/times for this event."

That's the authoritative source — it's where you'd buy — and it has nothing for 2026. The last published structure was $15 general admission covering Mayhem3D, Tunnels of Terror and Rising Spirits, or $22 with Paranormal360, arrivals between 7 and 10pm, about an hour inside.

Historically it ran the last two weekends of October. Whether it runs at all this year is unresolved. 401-841-0707.

Field of Screams, West Greenwich — the website is now a plant nursery

This one is genuinely odd.

Field of Screams is a haunted hayride and walk-through operation at Big John Leyden's Tree Farm, 179 Plain Meeting House Rd. Its website — hauntedhayride.net — now serves the tree farm's nursery storefront. Shop hours Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Christmas trees and shrubs. No Halloween content whatsoever.

The farm is very much still trading. The haunt's web presence has simply been replaced by the farm's retail site. That isn't proof the hayride has stopped — plenty of small operators run their season entirely on Facebook now — but there is no official source confirming it runs in 2026, and we won't invent one.

Scary Acres, Hope — 26 nights, on sale

Three attractions on one trail — the Dark Harvest Hayride, the Burial Ground corn field and the Curse of the Bayou — and the loudest reputation in the state. As of September 2 it is also the only Rhode Island haunt you can actually buy a ticket to.

September 18 through November 7, open Fridays and Saturdays throughout, with Sundays from September 27, Thursdays from October 8, and Columbus Day Monday. Twenty-six nights in all. Gates at 7pm; the trail opens at sundown.

$29.95 general admission on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, $34.95 Fridays and Saturdays. VIP is $49.95 and $59.95 on the same split, and an Ultimate VIP Fastpass at $74.95 is valid on any open night and any time slot.

Two things are worth flagging.

It runs a week past Halloween. November 6 and 7 are on sale, which almost nothing else in New England does — if you miss the season everywhere else, Rhode Island is where it is still going.

Halloween night itself is not on sale. October 31 is a Saturday, it is the single biggest night of the year for this category, and it is explicitly excluded from the venue's ticketing calendar while October 29, 30, November 1, 6 and 7 are all bookable. We do not know why. It may yet appear as a separate premium night. But if Halloween is the night you want, do not assume — call 401-823-3327 before you plan around it.

Until this sweep this section read "showing last year", because the site was still carrying 2025 prices and "NEW FOR 2025" copy. The whole page turned over some time in the last nine days: a rebuilt Burial Grounds, a new stretch of Bayou, and a CARNEVIL clown theme on the hayride. Nobody announced it. The only way to know was to look again.

The Haunted Labyrinth, Cranston — a farewell after 39 years

Rhode Island's longest-running haunted attraction is gone. The Labyrinth's own site now carries a farewell letter: it "will not be returning to celebrate what would have been our 40th season." It ran since 1985 as a fundraiser for a Cranston youth center, which made it about the gentlest thing a haunted house can be — and most listings still carry it as if it were opening this fall.

That is the quiet way this category decays: a venue says goodbye on its own site, and the internet keeps selling tickets to the memory.

What you can actually do in Rhode Island this October

One haunt is bookable. The rest of Rhode Island's Halloween offering never depended on the haunt season anyway.

Scary Acres is the booking. Twenty-six nights from September 18, timed entry, and a Thursday costs five dollars less than the Friday after it.

The Jailhouse Inn takes bookings now. A literal 1772 jail, four minutes' walk from that meeting point, and the best-documented building on our haunted stays list.

If you want a second haunt in the same trip, Fright Kingdom in Nashua is about ninety minutes from Providence and opens September 25, and Spooky World in Litchfield opens September 18 with its cheapest nights of the year that same weekend.
